Behind Stand Atlantic's cover of Post Malone 'Chemical’ for Like A Version

It might feel like a bit of a left of field choice, but Stand Atlantic taking on Post Malone's 'Chemical' comes from a place of love (and playing it on repeat).

"I feel like I, just personally, really like this song and I really liked that album, Austin," guitarist Miki Rich said.

"And I went and saw it live and was just like 'man, that sounds cool, we can rock it up a bit more and make it sound a bit cooler... hopefully'."

While it's a track that's immediately on repeat for Miki, vocalist Bonnie Fraser felt a connection with the storyline of 'Chemical'.

"My gauge on what the song is about is that toxic love where you love them but you know they're bad for you, but you stay anyway," she said.

"That 'I'll never let you go' kind of vibe. I resonate with that a lot, I think it hits a certain spot in my heart."

The band knew they needed to pull the track away from its original sound because, as Bonnie put it, "why wouldn't I just listen to the OG?" So the band went with their tried and true method of flipping the track upside down and building from there.

"My immediate thought of when we're asked to do covers or whatever, is to flip the entire thing upside down," Bonnie said.

"So if it's a rock song, make it a ballad, for example. And if you can bridge that into what you do as an artist, that's super cool.

"And I think it just shows a good song and what good songwriting is. It's a song that works in any genre, you can do whatever you want to it and it still sounds awesome. I think it just makes you appreciate the songwriting even more."

Well now we clearly need Posty to tackle a Stand Atlantic song, don't we.
