You Need To Hear: smol fish - 'If Only'

Surely this track was written in glitter gel pens, right?()

This is some true dreamy bedroom pop built for spending time in your sacred sanctum.

smol fish's latest release 'If Only' holds the energy of a growing up montage in a coming-of-age movie — singing into a hairbrush, trying on outfits, writing in journals, sticking posters up on the wall – all the classic bits.

It also captures the strongest feelings of all at that formative time: crushes.

This latest one from the Boorloo/Perth indie-pop band is brimming with that same building warmth, swelling to a punchy chorus that feels like unleashing the frustrations of an unanswered crush.

"'If Only' is about relying on crushes to avoid having to interrogate who you are when you're alone," vocalist and guitarist Hannah Coakley.

"This song is for all the people who crush hard on people they hardly know, I see you (I am you)."
