The Belair Lip Bombs are a band we’re certain you’ve been seeing pop up more and more in 2023.

Even triple j Unearthed Music Director, Dave Ruby Howe is swooning over them…

“Real deal stuff. This band is so great. ★★★★”

So it’s time for you to get acquainted with them as they’re this week’s Feature Artist!

Forming in 2017, these four from Frankston met in high school. With Jimmy and Liam a few years above Maisie and Mike, the crew started jamming together and dropping music shortly followed.

Their creative progression evolved quite naturally. Locking down support slots with Tired Lion and British India in the dawning stages of the band’s genesis. Maisie details how their name too came around quite swiftly.

“There's this skateboard wheel from the eighties and it was called a Belair Lip Bomb. My Dad is a bit of a skater and he just suggested it and I was like, yep, sweet.”

Steadily growing in their sound, presence and discography since then, the band have been on a roll (pun intended) and 2023 has truly been one of their biggest years yet.

Recently dropping their debut record, ‘Lush Life’, the quartet detail what it’s all about.

“The songs in the album are realising that you can't have a perfect life where nothing bad ever happens”

And their debut album is only one of many big achievements they've ticked off their bucket list this year.

Garnering a tonne of live performance experience, 2023 has seen a celebration of this debut album with an east coast tour and so far, the reception has been super positive. With rooms full of punters chanting their tunes back to them, the band have been humbled by the response.

“It's always a surreal experience when you travel thousands of kilometres from home and you hear feedback like ‘we listen to this every day’ or ‘we really identify with this album’”

Playing to a packed out room in the Fortitude Valley as an unofficial BIGSOUND act, the Belair Lip Bombs have also locked down support slots with South side VIC heroes The Grogans, and are yet to hit the stage with legends of the scene Hockey Dad.

“With dates in Australia and New Zealand, we’re really really looking forward to it, it’s gonna be sick”

Carving out a path of their own, The Belair Lip Bombs are one to watch.

“There's not that one band or one era of music that we all like and really connect over because we're not trying to be a specific thing, but it sort of comes out in a way that's sort of coherent”
